Generally speaking, around three months after a baby learns to lift their head, a forward curvature of the cervical spine develops. To maintain this curvature and maintain a comfortable posture, it's appropriate to start using a pillow at this time. A baby's pillow should be moderately soft and firm.

A pillow that is too soft won't provide adequate support for the cervical spine. Furthermore, due to the large contact surface with the baby's scalp, it can impair blood circulation, reduce air permeability, and even affect breathing. This is especially unsuitable for babies with a fever. Using a pillow that is too soft, especially for babies under six months old, can pose a suffocation risk.

A pillow that is too firm is also not good. An overly firm pillow can easily fatigue the neck muscles after sleeping, leading to a stiff neck. Since a baby's skull is softer and the fontanelles and cranial lines haven't fully closed yet, long-term use can cause head deformation or uneven facial features, affecting their appearance. It can also wear away the hair around the back of the head, causing baldness.
